RasGas LNG Tanks 4,5
The project consisted of building two LNG tanks of 140,000 m3 each for Ras Gas in Ras Laffan Industrial City. It was executed on a sub-contract basis with IHI Corporation of Japan.
Cylindrical in shape, reinforced and post-tensioned with a diameter of 80 m and a height of 38 m, each tank was built on 385 nos x 1 m diameter reinforced concrete piles from 11m to 13m deep.
The tank roof is hyperbolic, made of welded steel plates and strengthened with reinforced concrete.
The total concrete quantity is 32,000 m3 with 6,750 T of reinforcement, including 700 T of cryogenic steel to tolerate the extremely low temperature of the LNG.
The post-tensioning was carried out horizontally and vertically, allowing for an additional 400 T of strands per tank. The cathodic protection and the heating conduit systems were also included in Kettaneh Construction scope of work.
