LNG Tanks 1,2,3,4,5
The construction of five LNG tanks of 140,000 m3 each for Qatar Gas in the Ras Laffan Industrial City was executed under sub-contract
with IHI Corporation of Japan.
The tanks have a cylindrical shape; they were reinforced and post tensioned with a diameter of 80 m and a height of 38 m each. Each tank is built on reinforced concrete piles, their roof is hyperbolic, made of welded steel plates and strengthened with reinforced concrete.
The total concrete quantity amounts to 80,000 m3 with 13,700 T of reinforcement, including cryogenic steel to tolerate the extremely low
temperature of the LNG.
The post-tensioning was carried out horizontally and vertically allowing for an additional 400 T of stands per tank. The cathodic protection and the heating conduit systems were also included in Kettaneh Construction’s scope of work.
