Olayan Business School

The project is located in the campus of the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. Its scope involves the supply and construction of two basements, one ground floor and three upper floors. The area of each basement is about 4,650 m2 and the area of each of the ground and upper floors is about 3,500 m2, thus the building has a total built up area of about 19,000 m2

The building was designed by Machado and Silvetti Associates of the USA in association with the local Builders Design Consultants.

The project will be executed in 18 months, starting February 2007, which represents a very tight schedule, specially that all excavation works are in rock and within the sea water table.

The building is made of reinforcing steel single foundations, reinforced concrete columns, beams and slabs. Part of the beams and slabs of the first basement, ground and upper floors are post tensioned.

The quantities of the main works are the following:

  • Excavation : 6,000 m3
  • Concrete : 15,200 m3
  • Reinforcing steel : 1,800 ton
  • Post tensioning : 1,800 m2
  • Structural steel : 130 ton
  • Masonry : 11,000 m2
  • Stone cladding : 4,000 m2
  • Waterproofing : 20,000 m2
  • Gypsum, metal & wood false ceiling : 8,000 m2
  • Paint : 28,000 m2
